Ed Buckley This is a set of pieces I would describe as a sort of minimalist prog rock. While some others reference Glass; I myself believe that Reich would be a more appropriate comparison (think Electric Counterpoint). I'm also reminded of some of Philharmonie's work. This is very nicely done; and I thank Beafy for the find, although he tells me I should thank Megan instead. :-)

Dr. Beaf Another great find from Megan. Staccato guitar parts reminiscent of an African theme often wound together with sax phrases. It'd have taken plenty of practice to get this so tight. Favorite track: Eye to Eye.
Clem McCulloch

Clem McCulloch Heard on WNYC's New Sounds. Echoes of Philip Glass - beautiful intertwining guitar lines etc. Busy yet hypnotic (and never stressful!) Favorite track: Redwood.
Ola Nordal

Ola Nordal Sometimes Africanish, sometimes pure American minimalist, sometimes jazzy. Philip Glass with a rock band line up. Everything throughly composed. Got interested in this band through the I Care If You Listen Magazine.

The initial spark for the music of Empyrean Atlas began one fine summer evening at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn, listening to the legendary musician Thomas Mapfumo wind his way through one genius piece of music after another, accompanied by a band with one of the greatest feels ever heard. When you experience something that profoundly good, it’s hard to not try and respond. Finding similar inspirations in the music of Steve Coleman and Steve Reich (collectively known as the Steve’s), the seed that would become Empyrean Atlas was planted.

The album was recorded over the course of several sessions in the Hudson Valley and Brooklyn, NY.
